Cam is the local pastor and has been giving Harper the space she wants for years, hoping that some day he will have a chance to date her. Harper feels like her life is too messed up to allow anyone else in, especially after her twin sister gets her involved in financial fraud again.
Personal Review:
I have to admit that I don't remember Harper from the other books in the series, but I do remember Cam and I was so excited to read his story. Plus, I was not disappointed by Harper's role in the story, too!
Cam is a pastor who is a real person, relatable and not holding himself to impossible standards. His relationships with his family members were emotionally difficult to read, probably because those kinds of relationships are not all that uncommon. I LOVED getting to travel to the souh to see where he grew up.
Harper is caring, strong, and tries a little too hard to make sure others are okay sometimes. But, she's actually successful at helping people when they need it the most, and that was super sweet. She had a ton of energy and was able to roll with the flow when things sprang up in her life. Her growth was great to watch - she had to let go of some really strong trauma bonds in order to keep herself safe.
The fake dating aspect was perfectly done. When it came up in the story, I got all excited because I thought maybe Harper would finally give Cam a chance. And I ate it all up, it was wonderful.
I removed a half-star because this one was a little too suspenseful for me. I'm not good with stalkers or violent threats. The characters were at peace about it, but I was not :).
Content Warnings:
stalking, violent threats, physically abusive relationships (that Harper is helping with)
