Personal Review:
I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed a lot of aspects about it. The story line became more interesting as it moved along, the characters have really interesting unique features and struggles, and the forgotten past life moments were interesting.
However, there were some things that didn't really feel right for my tastes. I really didn't like the gauldr, or the interactions with gods, or some of the magic system which was confusing to me. The book itself had Brandon Sanderson vibes, and I'm not a huge fan of Sanderson, so I think it was just beyond my tastes.
I think this is great for young adult fantasy fans who like a mixture of mythology and complicated magic systems.
