Personal Review:
There were some fun and great things in the very interesting world that was created in this book. I loved the idea of The Day and The Night kingdoms being in perpetual sunlight and darkness. I liked the background stories of the main characters and kind of wished those would have been fleshed out more.
But...that may have been the most awful female main character I have ever read. She was very immature, always whining and complaining and completely unable to control herself. She bounced back and forth between 2 men quicker than humanly possible. Her only redeeming quality was that she was kind and accepting of another character's difficult past.
The ending was also just...too much. There was so much violence (not described) that was completely unexpected. Well, the violence was unexpected, the person who was doing the violence wasn't a complete surprise to me. The ending was also very abrupt. The story of this book feels unfinished. Even if it is meant to be a series, there should still be a feeling of finality to the plots presented.
I feel like this book has potential, and I hope future books in the series help me hate the main girl less :).
Content Warnings:
murder, physical abuse, a serious love triangle
What a fascinating concept… The Day and The Night Kingdom’s… I was thinking I’d add this to my list, but that relational drama sounds too stressful 😅 I am very picky about “love stories” in my books. I do not like ridiculous relational drama that feels it’s trying to carry the story. I want my books to have more substance and keep my interest based on what’s happening in the story/characters lives, not unnecessary conflict. 🙄🫣
