Lucy is headed to her best friend’s home to get a recommendation from her much-disliked brother, Lord Ashmore. She meets the gardener on her journey and the surprises ensue from there.
Personal Review:
I was not sure what to expect in a story that starts out with a woman who says everything that is on her mind, but I was delightfully surprised.
The synopsis of this book gives what I think is a major spoiler. It reveals something that doesn't come to light until a third into the book. And I had so much fun guessing about and anticipating meeting the gardener later in the book (Lucy meets the gardener in the first chapter, but there is something awfully mysterious about him).
Lucy was close to being annoying, BUT I actually found her refreshing in some ways. Learning her background helped her personality make more sense, and made me giggle a little because it fit her so well. The way she lit up a room and enjoyed small joys like a three-legged puppy was a lot of fun and I enjoyed her that way.
Henry was an interesting character. He embodied a man living a double life and I enjoyed watching the 2 sides of his personality collide. I really loved his mom, she was a gem and understood her son well enough to help things along when we get a little nervous that the happy ending won't be happy.
